Belt restorer sticks are used for clearing sawdust buildup on discs and belts for smooth sanding. I have one of these attached to my wood lathe stand.
To extend the life of my sanding discs I bring the disc up to the rubber while rotating at normal operating speed. This cleans out all the gum and baked-in sanding dust. The disc is then good to go again.
For optimum results they are best used when a new belt or disc is placed on the machine, then used sparingly as the belt or disc clogs with sanding material.
If you have an overhead drum sander this stick will help give a clean sand. Just rub the stick across the belt or disc while it is running, avoiding contact with your fingers.
If the belt or disc has a very heavy residue build up then it is too late for the restorer. Little and often is the way to go.
