Nova Acruline Lathe Alignment System

DOUBLE ENDED No2 MORSE TAPER
This item is designed to be fitted into the NOVA lathe's tailstock and headstock spindles to bring back the alignment for those lathes with adjustable tailstocks or headstocks.
Many turners tell me they are having trouble turning certain items because they have problems lining up their lathe's headstock and tailstock.
The Acruline is what you need.
Are you finding that you are having trouble drilling straight, or that when you bring the tailstock up to your work the live centre forces the work to one side or cuts a figure of eight in the work?
Bringing up the two points of your spur centre and drive centre is not accurate as one mm out will cause a whipping action on longer spindle work; or both the head and tail may be out of line but still meeting at these points.
To use the Acruline:
1.       Loosen the headstock so it rotates freely
2.       Place the Acruline firmly in the tailstock 
3.       Bring the tail stock up so the tip of the Acuruline is just inside the opening of the head stock spindle
4.       Lock the tailstock to the bed
5.       Wind in the quill with the hand wheel until the morse taper seats firmly into the head stock
6.       Tighten the headstock 

  7.       Remove the Acruline
You can further check the headstock alignment by holding a long bit of wood in a chuck. 

  Do not bring the tailstock into contact with this wood. 

  Then rotate the wood gently and make a pencil mark at the centre of rotation at the tailstock end of the wood.  Bring the tailstock with a live centre in it close to the pencil mark and check the alignment.  This assumes that the tailstock is correctly aligned and checks headstock alignment only.
Bringing up the tail stock and headstock with spur and drive is not very accurate as the tapered points play tricks on the eyes.

  Remember being 1mm when the tail stock and head stock are brought together  means 10mm out over a meter of bed.
