When using conventional round shank turning tools, the turners's attention must remain constantly focused on precisely positioning the tool's bevel edge by turning, twisting and rolling the tool handle. In contrast, the square shank of the Easy Wood Tool allows the tool to always ride dead flat on the tool rest. When cutting, the Easy Wood Tool's handle is kept parallel to the floor while the cutter is simply moved straight into the work. This simple technique is a boon for beginning turners, or for turners who have struggled using standard turning tools and techniques in the past.
Carbide cutting tips come in 3 primary shapes: square for roughing and making square shoulders, round for finishing, and diamond for detailing. A fourth shape (an optional cutter to fit the mini rougher) is square, but has a slight radius on each cutting edge for light finishing and inside bowl work.
