Woodcut Chisels
They have been the tool of choice for the majority of turners in New Zealand for many years and are often referred to as their "go to tool".
The big difference with the gouges is the fact that they have replaceable tips and solid shafts.
The benefits are:
Tip Replacement
To replace a worn out gouge tip, heat the section around the joint with a blow torch for about a minute. This turns the Loctite glue to powder and the old tip can be easily removed, in fact sometimes during the heating process the pops off without any help. Once the shaft has cooled, clean the spigot and flange with a wire brush to remove any glue residue and then with the Loctite ® supplied with the replacement tip fix it to the shaft and leave to stand for at least a couple of hours, preferably overnight and if possible stand it upright.
